Saturn Return Calculator

Your Saturn return is the time Saturn comes back to where it stood at your birth: first at 28 or 29, then at 58 and at 87 or 88. The calculator names the exact days Saturn crosses your birth Saturn, retrograde passes included, the time it spends in your birth sign, and your Chiron return around 50.

Date of birth

As exact as you can, ideally from your birth certificate.

Your place is missing? Take the nearest town; a few kilometres hardly change the result.

The calculation runs in your browser. Your birth data is neither sent nor stored; only this device remembers your last entry. · Place data: GeoNames (CC BY 4.0)

How the Saturn return is calculated

The calculator uses the ephemeris of the UmbraLux app, in four steps:

  1. 1

    Your birth Saturn

Saturn's longitude at your birth moment, as in your birth chart.

  2. 2

    Follow Saturn

Around each return the calculator follows Saturn through the ephemeris and narrows every crossing of that longitude down to the second.

  3. 3

    Count the passes

Where Saturn turns retrograde near your birth Saturn it crosses it three times: forwards, backwards, forwards again. The calculator names each pass, and the time Saturn spends in your birth sign with every entry and exit.

  4. 4

    Chiron

The same for Chiron, whose orbit the calculator takes from JPL's ephemeris.

Example: 15 May 1990, 14:30, Berlin

Saturn stood at 25°14′ Capricorn. The first return fell on 2 February 2020; Saturn was in Capricorn from 20 December 2017 to 22 March 2020 and from 2 July 2020 to 17 December 2020.

The second return brings three passes: 14 March 2049, 30 June 2049 (retrograde) and 10 December 2049. The third falls on 17 January 2079.

Chiron, at 13°12′ Cancer at the birth, returns on 21 June 2040.

What the Saturn return means in astrology

Astrology reads the Saturn return as a time of taking stock: what you have built is tested, and what no longer carries asks to be let go. The whole time Saturn spends in your birth sign is often counted in, on average just under two and a half years.

The calculation is astronomical; what it means is the reading of astrology.

Questions about the Saturn return

At what age is the first Saturn return?

At 28 or 29: Saturn takes 29.46 years round the zodiac on average. For births from 1900 to 2026 the first pass fell 28.4 to 29.9 years after the birth, the second 58.2 to 59.0 and the third 87.3 to 88.8 years after it.

Why does my Saturn return have three dates?

Because Saturn is retrograde for about four and a half months every year. Where that happens near your birth Saturn, it crosses it forwards, backwards and forwards again. For births from 1900 to 2026 the first return has three passes for 39 percent, the second for 58 percent.

How long does the Saturn return last?

Three passes lie seven to nine months apart from the first to the last. The whole time Saturn spends in your birth sign is often counted: from its first entry to its last exit 2.1 to 3.7 years. The calculator names both.

What is the Chiron return?

Chiron takes about 50 years round the zodiac; for births from 1900 to 2026 its first pass fell 48.4 to 50.9 years after the birth. It moves slowly, so it often crosses its birth position several times: three times for 68 percent, five times for 12 percent.

Do I need my birth time?

Hardly: Saturn moves eight arc minutes a day at most. Without a time the calculator takes noon and names how far the dates can move over the day: for nine returns in ten by one day at most.

Is my data stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser; your date, time and place are neither sent nor stored. Only your device remembers your last entry, and you can delete it below the form.
