Moon nodes in the horoscope: your soul task and where you come from

What are the moon nodes?

The moon nodes (also called the dragon's head and dragon's tail) are not planets but mathematical points: the intersections of the moon's orbit with the ecliptic. They always oppose each other — in opposite signs and houses.

  • North node (☊): shows your developmental direction in this lifetime — where you are meant to grow. It often feels new and slightly daunting.
  • South node (☋): shows talents, patterns, and qualities you bring in — what you are already good at, but also where you may over-rely on old comfort zones.

North node by sign: your developmental direction

Each north node sign points toward a specific growth edge — from Aries north node (learn to be yourself instead of always mediating) to Pisces north node (learn surrender and trust instead of perfectionist control). The south node shows the default mode; the north node shows the invitation.

The nodes in the house: where does this play out?

The house of the north node shows the life area where the developmental task becomes concrete. North node in the 10th house invites career and public visibility. North node in the 4th house invites family rootedness and finding inner home.

Node transits: when do the themes activate?

The moon nodes move retrograde through the zodiac, taking roughly 18.5 years for a full cycle. When the transiting north node passes over a natal planet, it activates deep developmental themes. In UmbraLux transits you can see where the current nodes stand and how they interact with your birth chart.
