Gene Keys Calculator

Your Gene Keys stand where your Human Design chart stands: the Sun and the Earth at your birth and 88 degrees earlier give the four keys of your activation sequence. The calculator works them out the way the UmbraLux app does, with line, shadow, gift and siddhi.

Date of birth

As exact as you can, ideally from your birth certificate.

Your place is missing? Take the nearest town; a few kilometres hardly change the result.

The calculation runs in your browser. Your birth data is neither sent nor stored; only this device remembers your last entry. · Place data: GeoNames (CC BY 4.0)

How the Gene Keys are calculated

The calculator runs the same calculation as the UmbraLux app, in three steps:

  1. 1

    Find the two moments

Your birth moment in Universal Time, and the moment the Sun stood 88 degrees of its course earlier, 86.6 to 92 days before the birth (as in Human Design).

  2. 2

    Place Sun and Earth

At both moments the Sun and the Earth (opposite the Sun) each stand in one of the zodiac's 64 gates; each gate is a Gene Key, each line a sixth of it.

  3. 3

    Read the four spheres

The Sun at birth is your Life's Work, the Earth your Evolution; the Sun 88 degrees earlier is your Radiance, the Earth your Purpose.

Example: 15 May 1990, 14:30, Berlin

Life's Work 23.6, Evolution 43.6, Radiance 30.3, Purpose 29.3.

Key 23 leads from the shadow Complexity through the gift Simplicity to the siddhi Quintessence.

Gene Keys and Human Design

Richard Rudd's Gene Keys use the same 64 gates of the zodiac as Human Design; the calculation is the same, the reading their own: each key reaches from its shadow through its gift to its siddhi.

Questions about the Gene Keys

Do I need my birth time?

For the lines, mostly yes: the Sun passes a line a little less than once a day, at birth and 88 degrees earlier. Without a time the calculator names what holds all day and the lines with the time each begins.

Why does the calculator show only the activation sequence?

Because the UmbraLux app calculates it; the Venus and Pearl sequences that Rudd also describes are not in the app.

What do shadow, gift and siddhi mean?

The three frequencies of a key: the shadow as its unconscious pattern, the gift as its unfolded talent, the siddhi as its highest expression, as Rudd describes them.

Why is my Life's Work the same as a gate of my Human Design?

Because both come from the same position of the Sun: your Life's Work is the gate of your conscious Sun in Human Design.

Is my data stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser; your date, time and place are neither sent nor stored. Only your device remembers your last entry, and you can delete it below the form.
