Your Human Design chart comes from two moments: your birth and the moment about three months before, when the Sun stood 88 degrees earlier. The calculator works out both the way the UmbraLux app does, with the true lunar node.

How the Human Design chart is calculated

The calculator runs the same calculation as the UmbraLux app, in five steps:

    Find the two moments

    Your birth moment in Universal Time (with the time zone of your birthplace on that day), and the Design moment: when the Sun stood 88 degrees of its course before its place at your birth, 86.6 to 92 days earlier.

    Place 13 points at each moment

    Sun, Earth (opposite the Sun), the true lunar nodes, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, in the tropical zodiac: 26 activations.

  3. 3

    Translate longitudes into gates and lines

    The zodiac holds the 64 gates, 5.625° each, beginning with gate 41 at 2° Aquarius; each gate has six lines of 0.9375°.

    Channels and centers

    A channel is defined when both of its gates are activated, in either moment. It defines the two centers it joins.

    Type, authority, profile, cross

    The type follows from the Sacral and from whether a motor reaches the Throat; the authority from the first defined center in the order Solar Plexus, Sacral, Spleen, Heart, G (else it is mental, and lunar without a defined center); the profile from the lines of both Suns; the incarnation cross from the gates of both Suns and Earths.

Example: 15 May 1990, 14:30, Berlin

14:30 in Berlin was 12:30 Universal Time (UTC+2). The Sun stood in gate 23, line 6. The Design moment was 15 February 1990, 89.1 days earlier; the Sun stood in gate 30, line 3 then.

That gives: Projector, profile 6/3, Emotional Authority, Split Definition. Defined channels: Channel of the Prodigal (13-33), Channel of Structuring (23-43), Channel of Awareness (24-61), Channel of Recognition (30-41). The incarnation cross: Left Angle Cross of Dedication (23/43 | 30/29).

What Human Design describes

Human Design, which Ra Uru Hu developed from 1987, combines astrology, the I Ching, the Kabbalah and the chakra system into the body graph. It reads the type as the way your energy works, the strategy as the way to decisions that fit, the authority as where you decide, and the profile as your role.

The calculation is astronomical and exact; what it means is the teaching of Human Design.

Questions about the Human Design chart

Why does another calculator show a different type?

Mostly because of the birth time or the time zone, or because of the lunar node: Human Design reads the true node, and a calculator that uses another one can land a node in another gate and complete a different channel. Near a gate boundary, minutes of birth time decide.

Can I calculate my chart without a birth time?

Partly. The calculator checks your whole birthday at your birthplace and names every chart it allows, with the minute each begins. The profile changes at least once on every day, as the Sun moves about one degree a day and a line spans 0.9375°; the type stays the same all day on almost six in ten birthdays (in a sample of 1,000 days from 1940 to 2024).

How accurate is the calculator?

It calculates with the ephemeris Astronomy Engine and the true lunar node. In 5,000 test births from 1940 to 2024, the type agreed in all but two with a calculation on the Swiss Ephemeris with the true node; in those two, a planet stood within arcseconds of a gate boundary.

Why 88 degrees?

The teaching places the Design moment where the Sun stood 88 degrees of its course before the birth. As the Sun moves unevenly through the year, that is between 86.6 and 92 days earlier, not a fixed number of days.

Is my data stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser; your date, time and place are neither sent nor stored. Only your device remembers your last entry, and you can delete it below the form.
