24. Return

Fu is the winter solstice. The light (Yang) returns, at the very bottom, very small. The system restart has begun. The low point has been passed. It is a time of quiet hope, but not yet of great deeds. The new light is tender and must be protected. One returns to one's own essential core ('reset to factory settings').

RestartReturn

Return. Success. Leaving and entering without fault. Friends arrive without fault. The path runs back and forth. The return comes on the seventh day. It is beneficial to have a destination.

Cyclical Renewal

Fu teaches that every step back is preparation for a fresh attempt. Mistakes are data points, not verdicts.

Operative Resources

Regeneration. The ability to draw new strength from stillness.

System Blocks

Perfectionism – The fear of admitting mistakes and correcting course.

System-Hacks

Power down.

  • Offline Day: Treat your system to a complete restart (no stimuli).
  • Error Culture: Celebrate a mistake today that you have learned from.

Image

Thunder inside the earth: the image of Return. So at the solstice the ancient kings isolate (close) the passes.

Shadow Challenge

Shadow: Impatience – Smothering the tender seedling with too much care, or going full throttle too soon.

Strategy

Slow down in order to move forward faster. Protect the new beginning. Rest. Plan the next phase, but don't force anything. Trust the process.

The Lines

  • Beginning: Insight (Quick Correction)Turning back from not far away. No regret. Great good fortune. One recognizes the mistake at once and corrects it (agility).
  • Level 2: Role Model (Good Orientation)Calm return. Good fortune. One takes one's bearings from good role models.
  • Level 3: Fickleness (Instability)Repeated turning back. Danger. No fault. One keeps changing one's mind. A lack of consistency.
  • Level 4: Going It Alone (Independence)Walking in the thick of things, he comes back alone. One leaves the herd to follow one's own path.
  • Level 5: Remorse (Strength of Character)Big-hearted return. No regret. One honestly owns up to mistakes and clears them up.
  • Conclusion: Delusion (Crash)A return that misses its mark. Misfortune. Calamity from outside and from within. One lets the moment for turning back slip by (point of no return).
