37. The Family

Jia Ren (The Family) shows wind proceeding from fire. Like warmth from the hearth fire permeating the house. It is the image of the family or the team. It is about structure, the distribution of roles and inner cohesion. The I Ching says: When everything is right on the inside (in the team/core), the outside falls into order by itself. Everyone must know their place and fill their role (role clarity). When hierarchies and tasks are clear, there is flow. It is a reminder that great success begins in small things. Nurture your relationships. Bring warmth and order to your inner circle.

CommunityTeam

The Family. Persistence is beneficial.

Belonging

Chia Jen reminds us: No one wins alone. Success on the outside depends on peace on the inside.

Operative Resources

Structure. A clear system of rights and duties.

System Blocks

Dysfunction – When energy is lost to internal friction instead of flowing into performance.

System-Hacks

Nurture the core.

  • Family Time: Set aside time today exclusively for your loved ones/your team.
  • Thank You: Thank someone who has your back.

Image

The wind comes out of the fire: the image of the Family. So the noble one is matter-of-fact in his words and consistent in his actions.

Shadow Challenge

Shadow: Drama – Unclear roles, neglect of duties, or quarrels in the inner circle.

Strategy

Bring order to your house (or team). Define roles clearly. Be loyal. Take care of those close to you. Lead with gentle authority and care.

The Lines

  • Beginning: Rules (Order)Seclusion of the household. Regret vanishes. Clear rules (boundaries) from the start prevent problems later.
  • Level 2: Serving (Doing One's Duty)She may not do as she pleases. She has to see to the food. Persistence brings good fortune. Devotion to the tasks within. Service.
  • Level 3: Strictness (Discipline)When people in the clan grow heated, regret arises over the strictness. Good fortune. When there is nothing but trifling and laughter in the family, this ultimately leads to shame. Better too strict than too lax (loving strictness).
  • Level 4: Prosperity (Abundance)She enriches the house. Great good fortune. Good management of resources brings prosperity for all.
  • Level 5: Love (Leadership)The king draws near to his clan. Have no fear. Good fortune. True authority needs no harshness; it works through trust and example.
  • Conclusion: Role Model (Character)His work inspires awe. Good fortune toward the end. The example takes effect. The leader's character shapes the whole group.
