What Is Chiron?

Chiron is a small celestial body discovered in 1977. It belongs to the centaurs, objects between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus, and takes about 50 years to orbit the Sun. Because its orbit is strongly elliptical, it stays in a sign for very different lengths of time: only about one and a half to two years in Virgo and Libra, up to eight or nine years in Pisces and Aries.

It is named after the centaur Chiron of Greek mythology, a wise teacher and healer. Wounded by a poisoned arrow, he could help others but not heal himself. That is why astrology calls him the wounded healer.
