1. Find your kin: the Dreamspell counts the days from a fixed point round the circle of 260 kins; 21 December 2012, for example, is Kin 207. It leaves 29 February out. The quickest way is the Mayan kin calculator, which counts like the UmbraLux app.
2. Read the tone: tone = (kin − 1) mod 13 + 1. Kins 1 to 13 have tones 1 to 13, Kin 14 starts again with Tone 1.
3. Add the seal: seal = (kin − 1) mod 20 + 1. Tone and seal together give your kin its name.

Example: someone born on 15 May 1990 has Kin 17. (17 − 1) mod 13 + 1 = 4, so Tone 4, Self-Existing; (17 − 1) mod 20 + 1 = 17, the seal Red Earth. Together: the Red Self-Existing Earth. Kin 17 is the fourth day of the White Wizard wavespell, which begins with Kin 14.
