22. Grace
Bi (Grace) is the fire at the foot of the mountain. It illuminates matter and makes it beautiful. It is about design, etiquette, culture, and atmosphere. Content matters (mountain), but without good packaging (fire) it reaches no one. Bi reminds us that beauty is a basic need of character, not just a luxury.
Grace meets with success. In small matters, undertaking something is beneficial.
Design Thinking
Bi teaches that form and function are not opposites. True aesthetics makes function visible.
Operative Resources
A sense of style. The intuitive knowledge of what is appropriate and harmonious.
System Blocks
Smoke and Mirrors – The attempt to disguise poor quality with marketing.
System-Hacks
Refine it.
- Upgrade: Replace an ugly everyday object with a beautiful one.
- Culture Impulse: Go to a museum or listen to complex music.
Image
The fire at the mountain's foot: the image of Grace. So the noble one brings clarity to the administration but does not venture to decide disputes (since appearances can deceive).
Shadow Challenge
Shadow: Vanity – Losing yourself in beautiful appearances ('style over substance') and papering over the inner emptiness.
Strategy
Cultivate the form, but stay 'real'. Beautify your environment (surface and user experience). Be charming. But don't make hard decisions based on appearances.
The Lines
- Beginning: Simplicity (Modesty)He adorns his toes, leaves the wagon and goes on foot. Honest simplicity is better than borrowed splendor (understatement).
- Level 2: Grooming (Adaptation)He adorns his beard. Care of one's appearance. A necessary adjustment to social norms.
- Level 3: Glamour (Enjoyment)Adorned and gleaming. Steady persistence brings good fortune. One enjoys the mood but must not drown in it.
- Level 4: Simplicity (Authenticity)Grace or plainness? A white horse arrives as though flying. He is no robber; he wants to woo at the appointed time. Wavering between splendor and simplicity. Choose the genuine connection over the show.
- Level 5: True Values (Substance)Grace among hills and gardens. The bundle of silk is paltry and small. Shame, but good fortune in the end. True feelings matter more than expensive gifts.
- Conclusion: White (Essence)Unadorned grace. No fault. The highest form of grace is complete naturalness (white space).
