What is the Enneagram?
The Enneagram is a personality model describing nine fundamental character structures — not as rigid categories but as deep motivational patterns. It asks not just "how does a person behave?" but: "why do they behave that way — and what truly drives them?"
The 9 Enneagram types
- Type 1 – The Reformer: Core fear: being flawed or wrong. Core motivation: integrity and improvement.
- Type 2 – The Helper: Core fear: being unloved. Core motivation: being needed and giving love.
- Type 3 – The Achiever: Core fear: being worthless. Core motivation: recognition through performance.
- Type 4 – The Individualist: Core fear: having no identity or significance. Core motivation: being authentic and unique.
- Type 5 – The Observer: Core fear: being helpless or ignorant. Core motivation: knowledge and competence.
- Type 6 – The Loyalist: Core fear: being without support. Core motivation: security and reliability.
- Type 7 – The Enthusiast: Core fear: pain and deprivation. Core motivation: joy and new experiences.
- Type 8 – The Challenger: Core fear: being hurt or controlled. Core motivation: strength and independence.
- Type 9 – The Peacemaker: Core fear: loss and separation. Core motivation: harmony and togetherness.
Wings, integration, and disintegration
Each type is influenced by its two neighbors — the wings. Under stress each type moves toward a specific other type (disintegration); in growth and security toward another (integration). These dynamics make the Enneagram a living growth model rather than a rigid type system.
On UmbraLux you find the complete Enneagram system with all types, wings, integration paths, and connections to Human Design and astrology.
